Yarn Bases
Organic Merino
100% EZ-Dye Merino
400m / 100g, 4 ply
This is an environmentally-friendly alternative to Superwash yarns. It is made with an enzyme treatment (instead of chemicals and a resin coating). To make the fibres more resistant to pilling, felting and machine washing. Though I would recommend that if you are going to wash it in the machine, do it on a wool or gentle cycle.
It is a very nice and soft yarn perfect for all sorts of knits like garments and accessories, except for socks.

Eco Sock
80% Non Superwash Merino, 20% Linen
400m / 100g, 4 ply
As the name suggests, this yarn is perfect for a lovely pair of socks. This is because of the added Linen, which makes the wool stronger. But it is still really nice and soft, so you could also use it to make garments and accessories. Colours will be more muted on this yarn base.
Sustainability
All the yarns in my shop are made with only natural fibres. And are Non Superwash or EZ-Dye treated. I made this choice because a Superwash treatment uses chemicals and the fibres are coated with a synthetic resin. Each time you wash the yarn, this coating will slowly rub off and end up in the wastewater. Which means microplastics will end up in the environment. Whereas EZ-Dye yarns are treated with a environmently-friendly enzyme treatment. Which means no chemicals or resin are used. This treatment makes the yarn also more resistant to pilling, felting and machine washing, like Superwash. But not as much as a Superwash yarn will. It sits somewhere close to superwash yarn but also has properties of Non Superwash yarn, like moisture-wicking and temperature regulating.
For the yarn fibres themselves, I only dye natural fibres, like protein (animal) or cellulose (plant) fibres. I made this choice because natural fibres are more sustainible then mass produced synthetic fibres.
